*We had a fun week! We were visited by the NAIA women's basketball team from Shreveport, L.A. on Tuesday, and they brought their Champions of Character outreach program to us. The kids got to play games and interact with these amazing ladies, and thoroughly enjoyed the time they spent with us!
*We also were visited Friday by some sneaky leprechauns! Oh, they played tricks on us throughout the day, and left their footprints all over the classroom! It was a fun and magical day, and we all had a great time. *We are starting a new chapter in math this week, and it encompasses units of measurement! This is a fun chapter, and it starts with telling time to the minute! *I will be gone for my last official training for the school year on Tuesday, but the students will be in good hands! *If you haven't ordered your yearbooks, be sure to hop online and do that, as this Friday is the last day to do so. Congratulations to Matilda, Hazel and Cambry! They are our winners for the Olympic Reading Challenge during the month of February! Way to go ladies! Those were some amazing minutes you dedicated to your love of reading. And good job to all of you kiddos who spent time reading for the challenge this last month too! Keep up the extra reading, it helps your brain grow and your imagination soar!
We are still working on fractions this week. We will be playing some faction games and exploring some ways we can identify fractions and find equivalent fractions with more ease during our lessons. Lots of fun math headed our way! Spelling is up on spellingcity.com, and our test will be on Friday. We have class pictures Monday morning, and optional individual spring photos too! Please make sure you have your child to school on time, as 3rd grade will be photographed 1st so as to accommodate our QUEST kiddos. QUEST kids will be heading out just a little later than normal, but everyone needs to be to school on time and ready to go and smile pretty for the camera! I can't wait for our week of fun! ***We are off an running on what already has been a busy week! We are flying into our fractions and the kids seem to be enjoying them and doing really well. We are using a lot of hands on materials and that seems to help us grasp concepts quicker.
***We are exploring fairy tales this week, and the magic that accompanies them! So far we have read fairy tales from Mexico, Ireland, and Persia! ***Our work in grammar this week has led us to singular and plural pronouns. Man, are these a bunch of smart kids! They grasped onto the concept quickly, and have done well with their work in the last couple of days. ***Spelling this week focuses on compound word. While we may be able to point out compound words, say them and spell them, when it comes to writing them, our tendency is to what to put a space between the two words rather than join them together. Needless to say, that is the task we are aiming to accomplish this week, as if they are not joined together as one word, they are no longer compound. ***Report cards will be sent home on Friday. Like last time, I ask that you remind your kiddo to be respectful to others and keep their grades private between you and them. Grades are not to be shared with friends, or asked about, and report cards are not to be opened at school. Remember we are still learning, and some concepts have just been introduced so your child may just be (E)merging on a standard, and that is 100% OK! If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get a hold of me, and I will be more than happy to chat with you. ***Our class pictures and individual pictures, for those of you who opted to have your child's photo taken individually, have been rescheduled for this coming Monday, March 12th. 3rd grade will be getting their pictures taken first so as to accommodate for the QUEST kiddos. Make sure that everyone is on time on Monday so we can get all their smiling faces in the class photo! ***Oh, and I heard it's supposed to hit 50 degrees next week! Maybe spring is finally heading to Montana!!! |
